THE CUT

IOUD Institute of urban planning Innsbruck prof. Peter Trummer - 2017

The Cut is an urban utopia at 2000 meters above sea level.

Cut into the Nordkette in Innsbruck, a sustainable city for 30,000 inhabitants is to be created, which, as a consequence of the lack of living space in the Inn valley, is to serve as an urban extension. With the reused resources of the cut and its removal volume from the mountain, a weatherproof linear, almost 3 km long, horizontal city is projected. The aim is to create a 90% self-sufficient urban extension using 3D printing technology and vertical farming, which in the age of the Internet and digitalisation represents an equivalent part of the city of Innsbruck. Apart from the local disparity, it is fully integrated into the urban organism of the Alpine metropolis and at the same time functions as a representative landmark in the valley due to its striking appearance.
